GameJam - "Electric Odyssey"

You are an energy based life form who was trapped in an old space station. Navigate through the stations aging electrical systems in top-down mode, then inhabit the android workers bodies to move around in first person to explore the station and find ways to move forward.

Level Design Process

Step #1 - Level Design Document

This step of the process lets me orginally define what I need for the space and to define early goals for the player. 

Step #2 - Quest Design

This step of the process lets me define the meaning of the level and general narrative flow. The original name for the game was AstroCore-1. We decided to switch the day we submitted.

Step #3 - Paper Prototype

This step of the process lets me flesh out the overall design  / flow before going to the blockout stage in engine. Lots of change from the paper design to the final design. The biggest addition is moving the wired sections into walls, making it more realistic.

Step #4 - Blockout of the level

This step of the process lets me test flow for the player in a playable space. This process is where the level design, for me, goes through its most iterations. Since there was limitied time during the GameJam, we did not do the standard blockout first. We jumped right into final asset placement.
